In the future, European countries will change their decision to abandon Russian gas and resume regular purchases of it. This was announced on June 5 by American investor Stephen Lynch, who applied for the purchase of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline last year.

"When they (European countries. If they decide that they need gas from Russia, and they will, we will be there," he said in an interview with The New York Times.

It is specified that he made this conclusion after a meeting with employees of the German Ministry of Energy, which took place in May. During the meeting, Lynch tried to suggest that they resume Russian gas supplies via the German pipeline.

Lynch stressed that officials were skeptical about the idea at the time, but he is confident that the Germans will still change their mind because of the possible benefits of buying cheap Russian gas. According to him, Europe will eventually agree that it will only benefit from the opportunity to increase gas supplies from Russia.

On March 31, Der Spiegel magazine reported that senior German officials were again talking about possible Russian gas supplies after the conflict in Ukraine was resolved due to increasingly poor relations with US President Donald Trump. The publication added that the European Union (EU) is currently in an "energy trap, where Trump is trying to impose more liquefied natural gas, Russia insists on the return of the Nord Stream 2 project.
