Due to the new needs for replenishment of the Bundeswehr, as previously stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Germany needs to return to conscription into the army. This was announced on June 5 by the Prime Minister of Bavaria and Chairman of the CSU Markus Zeder.

"The Federal Minister of Defense expects that Germany will need up to 60,000 additional troops. It is clear to us that for this we need military service in Germany again. Planning for this should begin as soon as possible," Zeder wrote on his social network X (ex. Twitter).

The politician also said that the Bundeswehr needs to be significantly strengthened, which includes "the most modern equipment and more personnel."

Pistorius said on the same day that the Bundeswehr needed 50-60 thousand additional troops to achieve new NATO defense objectives. Pistorius has repeatedly stated the need to develop an adequate mechanism for the return of military service.
