Over the past day, 293 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 31 people were killed and 336 injured. 25 of the dead were passengers and drivers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on June 5 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 77 accidents, 32 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 45 outside their area of operation, 74 pedestrians were injured of varying severity. Among the injured were 26 underage pedestrians, 17 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Six pedestrians were killed.

So, in the Kursk region at night, a 23-year-old drunk driver of a car on a rural highway ran over two pedestrians who were moving along the left shoulder in the same direction with him. One pedestrian was killed, and the other was hospitalized with injuries. The driver fled the scene of the accident, but a few hours later he was detained during operational search activities.

17 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 20 road users needed medical attention. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

In the Penza region, on 693 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural, a 25-year-old driver of a cargo Gazelle, distracted from driving for a few seconds, collided with a school bus moving in front of him, which was transporting a children's football team to Penza — 11 schoolchildren aged 10-12 years and their accompanying coach. As a result of the accident, three minor bus passengers (all born in 2014) were injured and, after receiving medical care, were sent for outpatient treatment.

69 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 70 young road users were injured, including 22 passengers, eight cyclists and 10 motor transport drivers. Two children were killed: a passenger in a passenger car and a pedestrian.

So, in the Rostov region, on 119 km of the Rostov-on-Don—Stavropol regional highway, a 24-year-old driver who received a driver's license in September last year lost control, drove off the road and crashed into a lamppost. His three-month-old son, who was wearing a seat belt in a child restraint, died in a car accident. The culprit of the accident and two other passengers were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.

In the city of Ilansky, Krasnoyarsk Territory, in the evening, a 53-year-old female minivan driver ran over a six-year-old pedestrian girl who was running across the roadway in the absence of an organized pedestrian crossing in the visible area. A preschooler was running towards her mother, who was on the opposite side of the road from her. The girl died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urges drivers to observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of towns and cities in the summer. The behavior of children on the road is often unpredictable, so special care should be taken when passing intersections, courtyards, parking lots at shops, as well as when leaving the park areas adjacent to the roadway. When approaching them and pedestrian crossings, motorists should reduce their speed as much as possible in order to be able to stop in case of a sudden change in the road situation, the department noted.

In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminded of the need to be more attentive to children and try to ensure maximum safety for them on the road in the summer. You should not let them go outside alone, especially in the evening, and accompany them during walks. To improve the visibility of young pedestrians, retroreflective elements should be used on outerwear.

The lack or negligence of parental control over the behavior and summer leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department stressed.

"We recommend motorists to abandon risky driving, exceeding the permitted speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers. We draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, avoiding even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy. Always remember that their lives and health depend entirely on you, adults," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

On May 29, the Ministry of Transport published a draft amendment to the rules of the road explaining the duties of drivers when approaching vehicles with special signals turned on. In the same document, the Ministry proposed introducing the concept of a "child restraint system (device)" into the traffic regulations and defining what exactly applies to these systems.
