Over a third of Russians would not support a change of stress in the word "calling"
A third of Russian citizens would negatively perceive a possible change in the normative stress in the word "ringing" from the second to the first syllable. This follows from a survey conducted by the VTsIOM analytical center.
"36% of respondents said they would react negatively to the change in stress, 44% — neutrally, only 16% would rate them positively, the rest found it difficult to answer," follows from VTSIOM data published on June 5 by RBC.
In addition, the majority of Russians (97%) consider it necessary to follow the rules of the Russian language. At the same time, every second person thinks that dictionaries and linguists prescribe the norm. In their opinion, it does not correspond to the way the majority of the country's residents speak.
According to the editor-in-chief of the portal "Gramota.<url>" by Vladimir Pakhomov, the stress in the word "ringing" will not change in the near future. He emphasized that in verbs, the stress on "-it" goes to the base. For example, this can be observed in the words "smokes" and "loves". With the verb "ringing", such changes should not be expected in the foreseeable future.
Earlier, on April 7, Vyacheslav Belyakov, director of the Total Dictation Foundation, announced that the percentage of excellent students in Total Dictation 2025 reaches 50%. In addition, he stressed that thanks to this project, participants can improve their literacy in a few years.
