A militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was sentenced to 16 years in a penal colony for shelling civilians in the Kursk region.

Sergei Stokoz, a grenade launcher operator of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), was sentenced to 16 years in a penal colony for firing at civilians in the village of Pogrebki, Kursk region. This was announced on June 5 by the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF).

According to the agency, on September 18 last year, a person involved, armed with an AKS-74U assault rifle and F-1 grenades, illegally entered the territory of Russia as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He set up a position near the village of Pogrebki in the Kursk region and opened fire on Russian servicemen and civilians.

"On November 1, 2024, as a result of the fighting, Stokoz was captured by Russian military personnel and handed over to the investigative authorities," the department's Telegram channel said.

Stokoz was found guilty of committing a terrorist act on the territory of the Kursk region (paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced to 16 years in prison with serving the first three years in prison, the rest in a high—security penal colony.

On May 22, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation announced that the Second Western District Military Court had sentenced Andrei Pasko, a soldier of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to 16 years in a high-security penal colony for crimes in the Kursk region. It is specified that he blocked the settlement, prevented the evacuation of civilians and intimidated them.
