- The survey showed the attitude of Europeans towards the accelerated European integration of Ukraine

The majority of residents of 11 of the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) oppose Ukraine's accelerated accession to the community. At the same time, only in 10 EU countries the share of supporters of Ukraine's European integration exceeds half. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the Hungarian research center Szazadveg.
"The share of those who oppose Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union, regardless of the fact that it is in a state of conflict, exceeds those who support this step in 11 member states, and in 16 member states the share of those who support accession is higher," the study notes.
It is clarified that the idea of accelerated admission of Ukraine to the union was not supported by residents of those countries that border or surround Ukraine. These included Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as the two most populous EU countries, France and Germany. In addition, citizens of Slovenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Greece and Cyprus spoke out against the relevant proposal in the survey.
"The results of the study show that if European politicians involved in the work of the EU Council had acted in accordance with the expectations of the population of their countries regarding Ukraine's accession to the EU, the requirement of not only unanimity, but also a qualified majority would not have been fulfilled," Szazadveg summed up.
The survey was conducted using the CATI method (telephone calls) from February to April 2025. During this time, 30 thousand people took part in it.
On May 7, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed speeding up the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU. She noted that the first negotiations on this topic are planned to be held in 2025.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on March 10 that speeding up Ukraine's accession to the European Union could be dangerous not only for Budapest, but for the entire alliance.
