Russia has been granted a seat on the UN Economic and Social Council until 2028.

Russia has become a member of one of the key UN bodies, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), for the period from 2026 to 2028. This was reported on the website of the international organization on June 4.
It is specified that the Russian Federation was nominated from a group of Eastern European states, for which three seats have been allocated in the ECOSOC. In addition to Russia, Ukraine, Croatia, North Macedonia and Belarus claimed them.
"Ukraine and Croatia won in the first round, while Russia competed in the second round with Belarus for the remaining third place and won," the article says.
In addition, 15 more countries have gained membership in the body, including China, India, Turkmenistan and Turkey.
On June 3, the UN General Assembly elected new non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. They were Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia and Liberia. Their terms of office will begin in January 2026 and last until the end of 2027.
