Leo XIV declared the importance of dialogue for the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict

During a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pope Leo XIV stated the importance of dialogue for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on June 4 by the Press Service of the Holy See.

"The Pope appealed to Russia to make a gesture in favor of peace, emphasizing the importance of dialogue to establish positive contacts between the parties and find ways to resolve the conflict," the article says.

It is specified that Putin also discussed with the pontiff the issues of prisoner exchange between Moscow and Kiev and the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

Moscow has offered Kiev an exchange of prisoners and bodies of dead soldiers.

On June 4, Putin had his first telephone conversation with Pope Leo XIV, during which he also discussed the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with the new pontiff.
