Nebenzia commented on the UN Security Council vote on the draft ceasefire in Gaza
The outcome of the UN Security Council's vote on the draft resolution on an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip showed who really wants peace and who continues to play geopolitical games. This was announced on June 4 by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the world organization Vasily Nebenzya.
"Unfortunately, once again the Council failed to reach a mutually acceptable solution for all members and adopt a 'product' that would save Gaza and the entire Middle East region from further descent into chaos. <...> I think today we all got another opportunity to make sure who really wants to peace in the Middle East, and who continues to play geopolitical games," the permanent representative said.
In addition, he expressed his gratitude to the members of the Security Council, who were able to prepare a draft resolution in a very short time. Nebenzia called it a balanced and strong document, as well as a "set of first aid" that the international community must provide to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
On the same day, the United States used the right of veto on the UN Security Council's draft on an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian supplies to the region. The American side was the only one that opposed the project.
