The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has declared undesirable the activities of The British Council organization on the territory of the Russian Federation, which promotes British values in the country under the guise of educational and cultural work. This was announced on June 5 by Alexey Zhafyarov, Deputy head of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
"The council's activities are aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, destabilizing the socio-political situation and changing power in the country, which poses a threat to the security of the Russian Federation," he stressed.
The Deputy Head of the Office of the Prosecutor General noted that this organization is subordinate to the British Parliament and is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth Affairs and Development of Great Britain, positioning itself as an independent government structure.
According to Zhafyarov, the council, acting under the guise of educational and cultural activities, promotes British values and interests in Russia. In addition, the organization implements projects aimed at discrediting the domestic and foreign policies of the Russian Federation, as well as at ridding residents of the former Soviet republics of their Russian identity.
On May 21, the State Duma declared undesirable in the Russian Federation the activities of the Austrian Institute of Humanities, the Association Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (IWM). According to the agency, employees of the institution are implementing a commercial program aimed at violating the territorial integrity of Russia.
