The U.S. Department of State has approved the conclusion of a contract for the maintenance of Abrams combat tank systems and related equipment for the Kuwaiti Army at an estimated cost of $325 million. This was announced on June 4 by the Pentagon's Defense and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

It clarifies that the Government of Kuwait has requested the purchase of equipment and services for the maintenance and repair of obsolete M1A2 main battle tank systems and new M1A2K Abrams systems.

This possible sale will support Washington's foreign policy and national security goals and help improve the infrastructure of a major non-NATO ally that has been an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.

"The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not change the basic military balance in the region," the ministry said.

The Emirati company EDGE Group announced on June 3 that the Ministry of Defense of Kuwait has signed the largest naval contract worth $2.45 billion with the company for the construction of Falaj3 type corvettes.
