- An Axios correspondent announced the US intention to veto the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.
The United States intends to veto a draft UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on June 4 by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing sources.
"The United States has informed Israel that it will veto the draft UN Security Council resolution, which is expected to be put to a vote today and which calls for an immediate cease—fire in Gaza," Ravid wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
It is reported that the draft resolution has been prepared by a dozen non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Voting on it is scheduled for 16:00 (23:00 Moscow time).
On May 28, it became known that the Palestinian Hamas movement agreed to the proposal of the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, on the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that the US initiative also implies the creation of a professional committee that will take over the management of Gaza's affairs immediately after the announcement of the agreement. The next day, Israel signed a proposal by Witkoff and US President Donald Trump for a ceasefire in the semi-enclave.
