The European Union (EU) intends to introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia at the same time as the United States in order to increase pressure on Russia. This was announced on June 4 by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

"We discussed how to impose European and American sanctions at the same time," Politico newspaper quoted her as saying.

She stressed that the EU plans to include measures against Russian energy and financial transactions in the new package of sanctions.
