Jordan is one of the most vibrant destinations in the Middle East, which combines a rich historical heritage, unique natural landscapes and a well—developed tourist infrastructure. On June 5, Izvestia was told about how to prepare for a trip and which places are worth visiting inside the country in the Yandex Travel service.

The best time to visit the country is spring (March — May) and autumn (September – November), when the air temperature is comfortable, without sweltering heat, rains and strong winds. During these periods, the air temperature is a comfortable +25-30 °C, the water in the Red Sea warms up to +27 °C, and the climate in the Dead Sea remains mild.

Experts noted that the Russian Federation plans to sign an agreement with Jordan on the mutual abolition of visas. While the agreement has not officially entered into force, Russian citizens can still apply for a visa upon arrival at the airport. Its cost is 40 Jordanian dinars (about $60). Large hotels and restaurants accept bank cards, but it is better to have cash when visiting markets, souvenir shops and small shops. Currency exchange can be carried out at banks and exchange offices.

The climate in the country is dry and hot, Yandex Travel experts emphasized. For long walks and excursions, it is recommended to take enough drinking water with you. This is especially important for tourists with heart and vascular diseases. Bottled water is sold almost everywhere, but it can be more expensive in remote places.

Experts also recommended taking a high-SPF cream, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat or cap to protect against sunburn.

The service recalled that Jordan is a Muslim country with a hospitable but conservative culture.

"Women are advised to wear clothes that cover their shoulders and knees. Men should avoid shorts. Alcohol consumption is allowed in hotels and licensed establishments, but is not allowed on the street. Photographing locals without permission is highly undesirable. If your trip coincides with Ramadan, remember that you cannot eat, drink or smoke outside during daylight hours," Yandex Travel said.

The Dead Sea has its own peculiarities, experts noted.

"The healing properties of Jordanian mud are known all over the world, but it is worth remembering the precautions. When swimming in the Dead Sea, do not immerse your head in water and try to avoid splashing: a high concentration of salt can cause severe burning and discomfort. After bathing, be sure to wash off the salt with fresh water," the service recommended.

Yandex Travel advised you to visit the city of Aqaba. It offers resort areas and the opportunity to go diving and snorkeling. Aqaba also has a 16th-century Mamluk fortress and an archaeological museum with exhibits from the Bronze Age.

Experts also recommended visiting the Wadi Rum desert, known as the Valley of the Moon, where many Hollywood films were shot, including Lawrence of Arabia, The Martian, and Star Wars. Travelers can try jeep tours or a night at a Bedouin camp.

In addition, Yandex Travel experts recommended visiting the ancient city of Petra, which is included in the list of new wonders of the world. This ancient city, carved into the rocks more than 2,000 years ago, was the capital of the Nabataeans, a people famous for their engineering solutions and ability to create cities in the desert. The most famous monument of Petra is the Khazna, or "Treasury".

On September 4, 2024, the Russian diplomatic mission in Amman informed Izvestia that Russia and Jordan were in the final stages of agreeing on a visa-free regime. The approval of this document is at the final stage, the embassy noted at the time.
