Nikita Kucherov, the Russian forward of the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey club, won the award for the best hockey player of the season according to the Ted Lindsay Evord players' union following the results of the 2024/2025 National Hockey League (NHL) season. Information about this was posted on the official website of the league on June 4.

It is reported that Kucherov's teammate, defender Cale Makar, and Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan McKinnon also claimed the award.

In the 2024/25 season, 31-year-old Kucherov played 78 games in the regular season and scored 121 (37+84) points. In the Stanley Cup, the Russian played 5 matches, in which he gave 4 assists, adds Sport-Express.

On May 24, it became known that Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin won the prestigious NHL award — the Mark Messier Prize — for leadership in the 2024/25 season. Ovechkin became the first Russian to be awarded this prize, which has been awarded since the 2006/07 season.
