- The Russian Foreign Ministry protested to the Japanese Embassy over shooting practice near the Russian Federation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation has protested to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow in connection with the conduct of shooting practice in the open sea near the borders of Russia on the island of Hokkaido. This was announced on June 4 by the press service of the department.
"Irresponsible actions of this kind in the immediate vicinity of the borders of the Russian Federation constitute an obvious violation of international law, pose direct risks to civilian navigation, the life and health of Russian citizens, and are categorically unacceptable," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its official website.
It is specified that the incident occurred on May 23 with the participation of the patrol boat "Kawagiri". Japan had not previously notified Russia of the firing practice and had jeopardized the safety of civilian shipping. The Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that Japan take measures to prevent such incidents.
On April 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry protested to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow over the firing practice in Hokkaido. It is specified that the shooting was carried out from SSM-1 anti-ship complexes equipped with Type-88 missiles with a range of up to 200 km.
