The dermatologist warned about problems in the body with dehydrated skin

Dehydration of the skin can signal serious internal disorders, such as acute respiratory viral infections, flu and other diseases. On June 5, Zarema Omarova, a dermatologist, cosmetologist, and co-owner of Dr. Omarov's clinic network, told Izvestia how to distinguish dehydration from dryness and restore hydrobalance.
She explained that dry skin is a type caused by genetics, and dehydrated skin is a temporary condition that can occur with any type of skin, even oily.
The main signs of dehydration include a dull grayish tint, a feeling of tightness, decreased elasticity, peeling, itching and the appearance of fine wrinkles.
"When there is a lack of moisture, the skin barrier is disrupted, and the sebaceous glands begin to work more actively, especially in the T-zone. This is a compensatory reaction of the body, which is often accompanied by small rashes," explained the dermatologist.
Among the main causes of dehydration are insufficient water intake, lack of vegetables, fruits and foods with fatty acids. Dehydration can also be affected by the abuse of coffee, alcohol and salty foods, chronic stress and lack of sleep, the use of aggressive care products, age-related changes (decreased synthesis of hyaluronic acid), External factors: dry air, UV radiation, wind.
Omarova warned that dehydration of the skin can signal serious internal disorders.
"These can be acute conditions such as acute respiratory viral infections or influenza, chronic pathologies (for example, COPD), as well as the consequences of uncontrolled intake of diuretics," she said.
For self—diagnosis, the doctor recommended a simple test - squeeze the skin on the back of your hand into a fold and release. If it does not straighten out immediately or a fold remains, it is likely that the skin is dehydrated.
The expert noted that with severe dehydration, laboratory parameters may change: hematocrit, erythrocyte, platelet, urea and creatinine levels may increase, as well as urine characteristics.
To restore the hydrobalance, Omarova recommended drinking clean water in small portions throughout the day, including water-containing foods (watermelons, cucumbers) in the diet, consuming omega-3 fatty acids (fatty fish, nuts), minimizing alcohol and coffee, and avoiding overheating and aggressive cleansing.
"In spring and summer, use sunscreens labeled with UVA/UVB, physical (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) or chemical filters. Avoid aggressive cleansing with alcohol—containing products, products with salicylic acid," the doctor advised.
She recommended giving preference to moisturizers with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and niacinamide. At the same time, according to her, moisturizing masks and mistes will help against dehydration, especially when working in air-conditioned rooms. Additionally, biorevitalization procedures can be used for injectable skin support.
Earlier, on April 16, Natalia Mikhailova, a cosmetologist and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhaylova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told Izvestia that mild cleansers should be used in the warm season — foams, gels or mousses with the addition of acids or enzymes.
