Smoke detectors were not working on board the flight from St. Petersburg to Yakutsk, and the fire extinguisher brought by the flight attendants turned out to be faulty. The victim Radmila Iova told Izvestia about this.

Earlier it became known that during the flight, a powerbank ignited in the cabin. The girl clarified that the charger was in someone's carry-on bag under the seat.

"In a second, the whole plane was in black smoke. Not a single smoke detector went off, not a single flight attendant said "stay in your seats," "don't panic," and so on. It just started a mess, everyone started running around the salon," she explained.

Radmila's husband tried to protect their three-month-old child from burning, and the girl herself ran to extinguish the fire with bottled water. She explained that there were no flight attendants in the cabin at the time of the incident, and another passenger helped her to eliminate the fire.

"The flight attendants came running with a fire extinguisher only when everything was already extinguished. They tore out that pin, but in the end the fire extinguisher didn't work. As I understood it, it was faulty," she clarified.

During the extinguishing process, the girl severely burned her leg, but it turned out that there were no anti-fire products on board. In order to relieve the pain a little, Radmila took painkillers from the passengers.

After landing, the girl was taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to completely clean the plastic from the melted powerbank from the burn wound. At the moment, the girl is at home and waiting for representatives of the airline to contact her.

Earlier in the day, the press service of Yakutia Airlines reported smoke in the cabin on board the YAK-488 aircraft. It was reported that the cause of the incident was a short circuit of the portable battery of one of the passengers.
