The EU confirmed Bulgaria's compliance with the criteria for joining the eurozone

Bulgaria meets all the criteria to become a member of the eurozone. This was announced on June 4 by European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis.
"Bulgaria now meets all the criteria to become the 21st member of the eurozone. Today's report is a historic moment for Bulgaria, the eurozone and the EU as a whole. This is not the last step, but it is an important one. It is expected that the [European] The Council will make a final decision on Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone in the first half of July," Dombrovskis said at a press conference in Brussels.
The European Commissioner noted that a positive decision by the Council would pave the way for Bulgaria's transition to the euro as early as the beginning of 2026.
On May 31, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reported that protesters against the change of the national currency (Bulgarian leva) fear a sharp rise in prices due to the introduction of the euro. In addition, they demanded a referendum on the country's accession to the eurozone.
