- The political scientist named possible reasons for Musk's criticism of Trump's budget project

American entrepreneur and former head of the Department of Government Efficiency of the United States (DOGE), Elon Musk, criticized the budget project of American President Donald Trump because he advocates tougher cuts in government spending. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, told Izvestia on June 4.
"He is not criticizing because he does not like Trump's initiative, but criticizes him because he believes that these initiatives are not fully represented in this bill. He would like tougher cuts in government spending and more systematic work on the transition to a balanced budget policy in order to resolve the current debt crisis in the United States," the expert said.
He recalled that it takes more than $1 trillion a year to service the national debt of the United States, and it grows by $1 trillion every three months.
"There is a certain reduction in government spending in this bill, but not a very serious one. And at the same time, taxes are being lowered, meaning the state budget deficit will grow in the near future, and in this regard, it is obvious that the debt crisis will continue to threaten the American economy and government," Dudakov explained.
The political scientist admitted that Musk was trying to "replay" his role in the Trump administration in this way.
"He (Musk. — Ed.) promised to reduce government spending. As a result, it was possible to reduce the spending of the American government by only $200 billion, which is not so much on the scale of the American budget," the expert said.
According to him, Trump is criticizing Congress so that everything looks like he couldn't bring all the ideas about reducing Musk's budget to fruition.
"I don't think this will lead to a confrontation with Trump. Elon Musk remains on friendly terms with Trump, but he will criticize the president," he concluded.
On June 3, Musk sharply opposed the new draft budget proposed by Trump and called it an abomination. He added that the project would significantly increase the budget deficit to $2.5 trillion and impose an unbearable debt burden on American citizens.
On May 9, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced that the US national debt is more than $36 trillion. Then he called on congressional staff to increase or suspend the debt limit by mid-July. In his opinion, this could preserve the country's credibility and global authority.
