In honor of the 100th anniversary of Peter Golyshkin, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), who participated in the storming of the Reichstag, on June 4, the Department of the Russian Guard for the Rostov region held a solemn event.
Peter Golyshkin was born in the village of Ivanovka, Tambov region. As the press service of the department reported on its website, he went to the front in January 1943. For his exploits during World War II, he received the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals "For the Capture of Berlin", "For the liberation of Warsaw", "For the Victory over Germany in WWII 1941-1945"
"Early this morning, not far from the Reichstag, we slept indoors. Suddenly there was a shot, we jumped out with weapons, we looked — a banner! <...> Victory!" — the veteran shared his memories with Izvestia.
Earlier, on May 21, 102-year-old WWII veteran Myron Sukholutsky, who lives in Germany, was awarded a jubilee medal in honor of the anniversary of the Great Victory. It was clarified that the presentation was due to the joint work of the Russian Embassy in Germany and Izvestia.
