- The US Permanent Representative stated that there were no discussions on Ukraine's accession to NATO.

The countries that are members of the NATO military alliance are not currently discussing the issue of Ukraine joining the bloc. This was announced on June 4 by the Permanent Representative of the United States to the organization, Matthew Whitaker, on the eve of a meeting of the bloc's defense ministers.
"The issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO is currently non-negotiable. We are not the only NATO member who adheres to this opinion," TASS quoted him as saying.
Whitaker added that the final decision rests with US President Donald Trump and all 32 of Washington's allies, who must come to a consensus on the issue. In addition, the White House has not yet decided whether the United States will continue to provide financial assistance to the Kiev authorities.
"The United States is committed to negotiations. No decisions have been made regarding further support. The best way to ensure the security of the NATO territory is to implement defense spending plans," said the US Permanent Representative to NATO.
A meeting of NATO defense ministers will be held in Brussels on June 5-6.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported earlier on June 4 that NATO countries are considering the initiative to create a brief final declaration of the summit, which will not mention Ukraine's possible membership in the alliance, so as not to create disagreements within the bloc.
At the same time, the Secretary General of the alliance, Mark Rutte, indicated on April 4 that no one had promised Ukraine to accept it into NATO immediately after the end of the conflict. He noted that the alliance had previously only promised Kiev an irreversible path to membership in the organization.
