The former MEP spoke about the oppression of Russian speakers in Latvia

The Latvian authorities are engaged in whitewashing the Nazis and their crimes, as well as oppressing the Russian-speaking population of the country. This was announced to Izvestia on June 4 by Andrei Mamykin, a former member of the European Parliament (EP) from Latvia.
"Right now, for example, on a Riga tram, you can receive an administrative fine for speaking Russian. I'm not kidding. It is forbidden to shout any slogans in Russian, even at the agreed place of a rally or demonstration," Mamykin explained.
Mamykin also stated that the Russian language is being forced out of the public space of Latvia, including fines for its use. He stressed that the Latvian authorities deliberately cultivate hatred of Russian-speaking people in society.
He added that because of this, many Russian-speaking residents of Latvia who share Russian values have either already left for Russia or are preparing to leave the Baltic country.
The former MEP stressed that after the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, the Latvian authorities decided at the legislative level to demolish all monuments to Soviet soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War.
According to him, Latvia now legally adheres to Nazi values and the laws of the Third Reich. He stressed that the Latvian authorities also hold celebrations in honor of war criminals from the Waffen-SS. CC legionnaires themselves continue to receive payments from the budget of the Latvian Ministry of Defense.
On March 16, a march was held in Riga in honor of the Latvian SS legionnaires. The marchers, including relatives of former legionnaires, nationalists and representatives of the Latvian authorities, marched through the city center and laid wreaths at the Freedom Monument.
On April 7, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation reported that the Latvian authorities were working on plans for the mass destruction of war memorials in the country. The SVR noted that Riga's behavior demonstrates a lack of honor, dignity and a sense of gratitude.
