Soviet choreographer Valery Panov has died in Israel.


Valery Panov, a Soviet ballet dancer, choreographer and actor, has died in Israel. This was announced on June 4 by the Segodnya in Israel portal.
"Valery Panov is a ballet dancer, ballet teacher and choreographer who emigrated from the USSR to Israel in 1974," the portal's publication says.
The cause of death is not specified. The actor died at the age of 87.
Panov was born in 1938 in Vitebsk. In 1957, the artist graduated from the Leningrad Choreographic College, after which he was accepted into the troupe of the Leningrad Maly Opera and Ballet Theater, in which he performed until 1964.
In 1970, Panov became an Honored Artist of the RSFSR. In the same year, he was awarded the Glinka State Prize for his role as Osman in the ballet Goryanka. Four years later, the choreographer repatriated with his family to Israel, where he staged many famous performances. Among them are the San Francisco Ballet and the Bonn Opera.
