The White House doubts the need for a new law on sanctions against the Russian economy. This was reported on June 4 by Politico newspaper with reference to Senator Richard Blumenthal.

It is clarified that the new bill, which Senator Lindsey Graham intends to introduce (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist), is aimed at increasing pressure on the Russian economy and oil industry, as well as on its largest consumers — China and India.

"The White House remains in doubt about supporting the sanctions bill," the newspaper said in a statement.

At the same time, according to Blumenthal, the position of the White House on the issue of sanctions may still change.

Bloomberg reported on June 1 that Graham intends to impose new sanctions against Russia before the G7 summit, which will be held from June 15 to 17. His bill calls for the imposition of a 500% duty on imports from countries that buy Russian petroleum products.
