The letter, which Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif sent through his aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, contained a request for assistance in resolving the conflict between the Islamic Republic and India. This was announced on June 4 by the Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic, Seyed Tariq Fatemi, at the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"I handed him [Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov] a letter from my Prime Minister and an appeal to His Excellency Mr. Putin. We have asked all these countries to use their influence to bring India and Pakistan to the negotiating table and reach a peace agreement," TASS quoted him as saying.

Fatemi added that Pakistan is waiting for any initiative from the Russian Federation that can reduce the degree of tension in relations with India. He also noted that Islamabad is ready for constructive negotiations to resolve the conflict with New Delhi.

On June 3, at a meeting with Lavrov in Moscow, Fatemi handed over a letter from the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Islamic Republic, Sharif, to Putin. At the meeting with Lavrov, Fatemi also informed the Russian side about the situation in South Asia and stressed the danger of escalation of relations with India.
