By the end of May 2025, the cargo turnover of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port amounted to 1.08 million tons. The indicator decreased by 19.6% compared to May last year. These are the data of MMTP JSC.

Coal retains the main share in the structure of freight traffic. It accounts for 75% of traffic. Next are iron ore concentrate (24%), cabotage and general cargo (1%).

Experts believe that the decrease in cargo turnover was due to a drop in export demand for coal, lower prices, high transportation costs and a reorientation of cargo traffic to the east, Bi-Port news agency writes.

MMPT announced its readiness to increase turnover as external demand recovers. The port's capacity allows handling up to 24 million tons of cargo per year.

Earlier it was reported that in the Murmansk Sea Fishing Port in January 2025, cargo turnover decreased by 33% compared to the data of 2024. In the first month of this year, 8.6% less fish products and three times less petroleum products were shipped compared to the first month of last year.
