At the plenary session on Wednesday, June 4, the Federation Council approved a law on fines of up to 500 thousand rubles for the sale of energy products to minors.

"The law establishes administrative liability for citizens, officials and legal entities for selling non—alcoholic tonic drinks, including energy drinks, to minors," said Senator Vasily Popadailo.

Now citizens can be fined from 30 to 50 thousand rubles, officials — from 100 to 200 thousand, legal entities — from 300 to 500 thousand rubles in case of sale of energy drinks to minors.

Earlier, on May 22, the State Duma of Russia in the second and third readings adopted a law imposing fines of up to 500 thousand rubles for the sale of energy drinks to minors. Then the chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin in his Telegram channel also announced the intentions of the lower house to seek criminal liability for the sale of these products to children. According to him, the harm to a child's health from energy drinks is obvious — the risk of early development of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other complications.
