The U.S. debt to the United Nations (UN) exceeds $3 billion. This was announced on June 4 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

This is how she commented on the words of American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk to the United Nations, who called for the termination of funding for the organization.

"At the moment, the United States owes over $3 billion in contributions to the United Nations," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

At the same time, she expressed confidence that the UN does not intend to remind Washington about the payments, because the organization "will not have powder in its flasks."

Earlier in the day, Zakharova said that Musk's criticism of the United Nations was motivated by self-interest.

On June 3, Musk called for the termination of UN funding. His post on the social network X (ex. Twitter) was a reaction to the statement by the Secretary General of the organization, Antonio Guterres, on the need to counter the spread of disinformation and hatred on digital platforms.
