- The Moscow Prosecutor's office called the rule of protection against telephone fraud
Phone scammers themselves provoke citizens to contact them by sending their phone in private messages. This was announced on June 4 by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office.
"Fraudsters themselves provoke citizens to contact them by sending the "necessary" phone number in a message," the department's Telegram channel says.
They noted a case where a 68-year-old Muscovite woman became a victim of such a scheme. She received a text message stating that her office at Gosuslugi had allegedly been hacked, and for feedback, the phone number was set aside in the text, which the victim immediately called. Following the instructions of the phone scammers, the woman gave them more than 13 million rubles.
The prosecutor's office told how not to fall for the trick of such a scheme.
"Never call back on such numbers. If you receive a suspicious call, you should check the information received and consult with someone," the department added.
Employees of banks and law enforcement agencies never contact citizens in messengers, no investigative actions are carried out by phone, real employees of banks, government and law enforcement agencies never ask citizens to withdraw funds from accounts, transfer them to certain accounts or transfer them to couriers.
Earlier, on May 15, it was reported that 97% of Russians surveyed had experienced cyberbullying over the past year. At the same time, the most common type of fraud is telephone: four out of five Russians (79%) have received such calls over the past 12 months.
