The criticism of American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk against the United Nations (UN), which called for the termination of its financing, has selfish motives. This was announced on June 4 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The space manager raised an excellent topic. It reminded me of a classic joke: have you heard that there will be no money in the future? Yes, you are, and in the future too," the diplomat wrote in her Telegram channel.

Zakharova also noted that today the United States has more than $3 billion in debt to the United Nations, while Washington behaves as if it could ignore its debt obligations.

In addition, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that, according to published data, about $360 million was allocated for contracts with American companies, and unofficially, companies from the United States earn about $ 2 billion annually.

On June 3, Musk called for the termination of UN funding. His post on the social network X (ex. Twitter) was a reaction to the statement by the Secretary General of the organization, Antonio Guterres, on the need to counter the spread of disinformation and hatred on digital platforms.
