Acknowledging one's own mistakes and shortcomings will help an employee build a trusting relationship with management. In an interview with Izvestia, Roskachestvo expert Daria Afanasyeva, head of the Beyond Taylor Unified Concept Department, named ways to make communication with superiors more open on June 4.

"In companies operating according to the methodology of clientocracy, trust is one of the key principles. We basically trust each other until someone betrays that trust. We do not seek to build additional checks. However, the employee, for his part, can take actions that strengthen trust," she explained.

First of all, the expert says, there is no need to break these promises. If you are unable to complete an assignment, you must be notified in advance. At the same time, it is important to build relationships so that the manager does not have any questions about what the employee spends his working time on.

"It is useful to share not only the actual results, but also logic, solutions, doubts. This reduces the anxiety of the management and allows everyone to be aware of what is happening — without statuses and endless approvals," said Daria Afanasyeva.

You should also be the first to report errors and difficulties. If there are difficulties, there is no need to wait for the manager to become aware of this from a third party or, even worse, from the client.

According to Afanasyeva, it is important not to make excuses, but to understand why this happened and how to prevent the situation in the future. This is an adult position that commands the respect of the supervisor. The specialist noted that there are no perfect employees, just as there are no experts who know everything about everything.

"Openly admit if a task goes beyond your knowledge or competence. Ask for advice and help. Such behavior is valuable for a manager, as he understands that this employee will not become a hero or take on something he does not understand in order to let the company down later," the specialist added.

Also, recognizing responsibility for the result will help build a trusting relationship. Even when working on a specific part of a project, it's worth thinking about the big picture and the team's bottom line. The manager will understand that the employee is thinking about the big picture, and this is a serious contribution to trust.

Earlier, on April 19, Oksana Semenova, head of the Financial Institutions practice and career consultant at CORNERSTONE, told Izvestia how to behave when confronted with an aggressive supervisor. She clarified that constant negativity, criticism, and even profanity create a toxic environment where employees feel unappreciated, demotivated, and stressed.
