In Cologne, Germany, the evacuation of 20,000 local residents began due to the discovery of three unexploded bombs from the Second World War. The footage is published by Izvestia on June 4.

"Cologne is undergoing the largest evacuation of the population since 1945 due to unexploded bombs of the Second World War," said correspondent Margarita Kostiv.

It is noted that interested people can stay in temporary accommodation facilities, as well as one of them is located in the school. At the same time, checkpoints have been set up in a kilometer-long area from the discovered bombs, police and government officials are checking houses and apartments to make sure that there are no residents left there.

The RTL broadcasting company, a hospital, two nursing homes, a railway station, an exhibition center, the Lanxess arena, a music center, a philharmonic hall, several museums, 58 hotels, nine schools, kindergartens and administrative buildings are located in the evacuation zone.

Kai Kulshevsky, head of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal department at the Dusseldorf District Government, said it was not yet possible to determine how long the mine clearance would take.

He added that between 1.5 thousand and 2 thousand bombs from the Second World War are found annually throughout the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The day before, Cologne announced the evacuation of about 20 thousand people due to the discovered bombs from the Second World War. Three bridges over the Rhine River were also closed.
