- Politico learned about the refusal of France and Belgium to support the ban on gas from Russia

France and Belgium, the two largest European buyers of Russian gas in Europe, did not support the ban on natural gas imports to the European Union (EU). This was reported by the Politico newspaper on June 3.
"The two largest buyers of Russian liquefied natural gas in the European Union refuse to approve Brussels' plan to ban Moscow's gas supplies," the publication says.
It is clarified that both states are requesting additional information from the European Commission (EC) on what the ban may lead to and what the economic consequences will be.
In addition, French Energy Minister Marc Ferracci said that a complete rejection of gas from Russia could lead private firms to face Russian lawsuits over terminated contracts. The publication recalled that part of the shares of the Russian gas production company Novatek belongs to the French oil and gas company TotalEnergies.
On June 1, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that the republic would defend its own interests in banning energy supplies from Russia to the European Union. According to him, such a bill is harmful.
