US President Donald Trump has signed a decree increasing duties on aluminum and steel imports to 50% from June. This was reported on the White House website on June 3.

"I have come to the conclusion that it is necessary and appropriate to increase import duties on steel products and their derivatives, as well as aluminum products and their derivatives, from a 25% rate to 50%," Trump said in a proclamation.

It is specified that the duties will take effect on June 4. Trump also noted that the tariff increase would regulate imports, and it would further secure the U.S. steel industry.

On May 30, Trump announced that customs duties on imported steel would double to further protect the U.S. steel industry from foreign influence and unfair competition.
