- The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Greece's refusal to extend the accreditation of a Russian journalist

Russia has retaliated against Greece for refusing to extend its accreditation to Gennady Melnik, a correspondent for the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. This was announced on June 3 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
In March of this year, Melnik was forced to leave Greece due to a "groundless decision" by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomat recalled.
"The Russian office in Athens, which had been operating for more than 20 years, was forced to close. Retaliatory measures have been taken in connection with this discriminatory decision," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
According to her, as a reporting measure, a high-ranking Greek official involved in restricting the work of Russian media in the republic's media space was banned from entering Russia.
On March 12, the Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Greece's refusal to extend its accreditation to a correspondent of the Rossiya Segodnya news agency. Zakharova called this another manifestation of the policy of confrontation with the Russian Federation. Then she noted that Athens had previously been seen to be unfriendly towards representatives of the Russian media.
