The American side supports direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. This was announced on June 3 by the representative of the US State Department, Tammy Bruce.

"We continue to support direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine," she told reporters.

Bruce noted that American leader Donald Trump also "supports any mechanism" that could contribute to resolving the issue.

In addition, according to her, the US administration expects that the negotiation process will not be delayed for a long time, since Trump "needs results and deadlines."

"There is an obligation to prevent this from going on for months or for meetings to be held for the sake of meetings. It's not going to last a year," Bruce said.

White House Spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said on the same day that the direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul demonstrate how far the peace process has progressed in recent months. In her opinion, the meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul on June 2 took place thanks to Trump's perseverance and determination.
