The First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict of Alexei Zarubin, who caused an explosion in an apartment building in Stupino, Moscow region. Lawyer Igor Litvinenko told Izvestia about this on Tuesday, June 3.

On November 29, 2024, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced Zarubin to life imprisonment in a special regime colony.

The lawyer clarified that the defense intends to appeal the verdict.

In April 2022, a gas explosion occurred in a five-story building in Stupino, Moscow region, and apartments from the second to the fifth floor were destroyed. Six people were killed, including Zarubin's wife and two children, and 19 residents were injured.

The investigation concluded in July 2023 and concluded that on the night before the tragedy, the man had quarreled with his wife, closed the window, plugged the hood with a baby blanket, opened all the taps on the gas stove, then struck a lighter and ignited the kitchen.
