The final turnout in the South Korean presidential election was 79.4%. This figure is the highest since 1997. MK informed about this on June 3.

"The final voter turnout in the 21st presidential election was 79.4%. This is 2.3% higher than the final voter turnout on the 20th ballot and is the highest figure in 28 years," the publication says.

According to the National Election Commission, as of June 3, more than 35.2 million voters took part in the voting. In the regions, the highest percentage of citizens who participated in the elections was in Gwangju — 83.9%. The lowest turnout was recorded in Jeju — 74.6%.

Early presidential elections in South Korea were scheduled for June 3 this year, as the country's constitutional court approved the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol on April 4. Then Han Dok-soo was declared acting head of state. At the moment, the former head of the opposition party (Democratic Party "Toburo") is in the lead in the elections Lee Jae-myung.
