US President Donald Trump is distancing himself from the issue of a possible settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported on June 3 by ABC News, citing anonymous sources among American officials.

"Even before the last talks [between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul], President Trump's frustration with the lack of progress towards peace was growing. Officials familiar with his train of thought say that, despite the fact that he had previously sharply criticized both Ukraine and Russia, in recent days he has been more distant," the article says.

According to the author of the article, the second round of negotiations ended "without any significant breakthroughs." The American president has not responded to Ukraine's drone strikes on Russia.

After the negotiations concluded, American officials told ABC News that they were disappointed but not surprised by the impressive list of demands that Russia says must be met before it agrees to a 30-day truce.

American officials said that the list includes a number of items that both Ukraine and the United States consider impossible to fulfill.

On the other hand, despite his long-standing threats to impose new anti-Russian sanctions, Trump has not raised the issue since the last talks, the article notes.

The second round of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev took place on June 2. On the same day, it became known that the memorandum of the Russian side on the settlement of the conflict includes 31 points, including options for a possible ceasefire.

At the end of the negotiations, the head of the Russian delegation, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, said that Ukraine and Russia had agreed on the largest exchange of prisoners of war since the beginning of the special military operation, which would include at least 1,000 people from each side.
