During a meeting with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Seyed Tariq Fatemi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted the need for direct dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on June 3.
"The Russian side stressed the need for direct dialogue and increased mutual trust between New Delhi and Islamabad," the statement said.
The ministry clarified that during the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Pakistan were also discussed. In addition, attention was focused on increasing joint efforts to combat terrorism.
The AFP news agency, citing a source in the Pakistani intelligence services, reported on May 20 that the Pakistani and Indian authorities had agreed to withdraw troops to positions occupied by the countries before the conflict began by the end of May. It was noted that the troops would be withdrawn gradually.
