Sandu has declared national mourning over the death of composer Eugene Doga.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu on Tuesday, June 3, declared national mourning over the death of composer Eugene Doga.

"As a sign of respect to the great Evgeny Doga, the day of his funeral will be declared a day of national mourning," she wrote on Facebook (owned by the extremist Meta company recognized in Russia, its activities are banned in the Russian Federation).

She stressed that Moldova was more beautiful and richer thanks to him, noting that the composer "says goodbye with pain and gratitude."

The death of the composer became known earlier that day. It was clarified that he died at the age of 89. Doga is a People's Artist of the USSR, winner of many state awards, author of more than 200 musical works. His waltz from the movie "My Affectionate and Gentle Beast" was recognized by UNESCO as one of the four musical masterpieces of the 20th century.
