On June 3, Alexey Dyumin, Assistant to the President of Russia and Secretary of the State Council, held a meeting of the working group on the preparation of the autumn Sports Council under the President of the Russian Federation. Its theme will be the development of youth sports in the country.

"We have 30 million children. And the future of Russia depends on what conditions we create for their comprehensive development today, including in the field of sports," Dyumin said.

According to him, the state and society should create all the necessary conditions to ensure the accessibility of sports for children and to improve physical fitness among young people.

"We must continue to work to identify and eliminate the factors hindering the development of youth sports in the country. We know the main problems: This includes a shortage of coaching and teaching staff, insufficient material and technical base, problems of interdepartmental cooperation, and much more," Dyumin stressed.

He also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had set the task of eliminating artificial restrictions in youth sports and minimizing its commercialization.

Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, in turn, added that a number of specific solutions have already been implemented to increase the accessibility of sports for children.

"The Ministry of Sports has introduced a ban on collecting fees for children's participation in national and interregional competitions. The minimum share of regional sports spending has been determined — at least 2% of the regional budget, and 59 regions already meet this requirement. The requirements for regional programs of free sections for children and sets of measures to support coaches have been approved. 24 priority sports have been identified, which are available in terms of infrastructure and equipment, and they receive priority support," Degtyarev said.

The final meeting of the working group is scheduled to be held in September this year.

The previous meeting of the council with the participation of the head of state was held on May 28. At the meeting, Putin said that by 2030 and for the future until 2036, it is necessary to develop a concept for the development of adaptive sports and physical culture. He called the development of an idea and its implementation a complex task that involves working together.
