A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. "Air defense systems shot down four JDAM guided aerial bombs and two HIMARS multiple rocket launchers manufactured in the United States, as well as 199 aircraft—type unmanned aerial vehicles," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Operational and tactical aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile forces and artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Armed Forces also defeated the enterprise of the radio-electronic industry.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, 663 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 61,207 unmanned aerial vehicles, 609 anti-aircraft missile systems, 23,729 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1,565 multiple rocket launchers, 25,636 field artillery guns and mortars, 36,400 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.
