Israel's large-scale ground operation in the Gaza Strip is prompting European leaders to criticize Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and reconsider their approaches to arming the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This was reported by Bloomberg on June 3.

"Some of the most devoted supporters of Israel in Europe are increasingly opposed to the war in Gaza, and a number of countries, including Germany, are considering restricting trade and arms sales [to Israel]," the article says.

It is noted that a number of European countries (among them the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Germany) have begun to consider steps against Israel that would help "put an end to the 20-month conflict."

At the same time, Germany's "anger" towards the Netanyahu government intensified after the IDF stepped up military operations in Gaza and continued to block aid to the Palestinians, the newspaper writes.

According to the authors of the article, the international condemnation symbolizes the changes in Europe and the growing isolation of Israel. More and more countries are calling on the European Union (EU) to adopt sanctions against the Jewish state, Bloomberg said.

On May 18, the IDF announced the start of a large-scale ground operation in the north and south of the Gaza Strip. At that time, it was reported that the Israeli army had already eliminated dozens of fighters of the movement and planned to "act against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip" in order to protect local residents.

Andrei Manoilo, a professor at the Faculty of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, said on May 27 that a possible truce between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas would not lead to the state returning to peaceful existence. According to the expert, by agreeing to a truce, Hamas is trying to show that it is an organization that is not alien to humanism.
