The introduction of biometric technologies will allow businesses to sell energy drinks online, vending machines or at self-service cash desks. The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Mincifra) told Izvestia about this on June 3.

The ministry stressed that this is an optional step for entrepreneurs.

"This is an additional option that they can use if they want to sell energy drinks, including remotely, at vending machines. For citizens, it is also a tool to confirm their age, which they can use at will," the ministry noted.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs added that modern biometrics techniques make it possible to determine a person as accurately as possible, including thanks to Liveness technology. It can detect data forgeries in the digital channel.

"The data in the unified Biometric System (UBS) is securely protected. They are not stored in their original form, but in encrypted form. Since all operations take place inside the system, the data never leaves the perimeter of the system. You can remove biometrics from the EBS at any time, including with the help of Gosuslug, the ministry concluded.

Earlier, on June 3, Izvestia wrote that a biometrics age confirmation service was being prepared in Russia, and it would appear in vending machines in the summer. First of all, the changes will affect the sale of energy drinks, which since March have been sold only to people over the age of 18. In the future, the service will allow you to buy alcohol and tobacco at self-service ticket offices without a passport.
