Starting from 2026, the subject "Spiritual and moral culture of Russia" will be compulsory in grades 5-7. This was announced on June 3 by the rector of Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPGU), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences Alexey Lubkov.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education told TASS that the Russian Orthodox Church, represented by the Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea, will take part in the development of textbooks on the subject of "Spiritual and Moral culture of Russia."

As Lubkov noted, the new course will be taught by history teachers. In the 5th grade, 17 hours will be allocated for it, and in the 6th and 7th grades, 34 hours each.

"The course will be compulsory. In this regard, the structure of the basic school curriculum will be revised. This will be one of the important ideological courses," Lubkov told TASS.

It is specified that the discipline will tell students about spiritual and moral values through a description of the activities and exploits of the heroes. According to the rector of Moscow State University, the collections will be prepared by November this year.

Earlier, on May 26, the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov announced that in the next three years Russia will create unified state textbooks in all subjects. He noted that work is currently underway to develop state textbooks on the Russian language and literature.
