Russian Russian is the mother tongue of many politicians in Ukraine who do not fully speak Ukrainian. For most officials and parliamentarians, Russian is their native language. This was announced on June 3 by former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev.

He commented on the negotiations with the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine in Istanbul, Turkey, which were conducted entirely in Russian.

"In Ukraine, everyone speaks Russian, but not Ukrainian. I have no doubt that a significant part of the Ukrainian delegation is not fluent in the Ukrainian language," the ex-MP said in an interview with aif.ru .

Tsarev also said that all meetings in the office of the president of the country are also conducted in Russian, but when going public, politicians use Ukrainian. He clarified that in a tense situation, deputies change the language to Russian by default.

In addition, Tsarev added that the Ukrainian language is perceived by many government officials as a formality.

The second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul took place on June 2.
