President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discredited his country and gave Russia an advantage at the talks in Istanbul. This opinion was expressed on June 2 by political commentator Clara Statello in an article for the portal L'antidiplomatico.

"Ukraine (by attacking the regions of the Russian Federation. — Ed.) gave Russia an important negotiating advantage. Zelensky has publicly demonstrated his willingness to continue the conflict, even at the cost of creating a dangerous escalation," the publication says.

According to Statello, Zelensky's attempts to provoke Moscow have only worsened his position. The author stressed that Russia, by not reacting to the actions of the Ukrainian side, showed its willingness to continue the dialogue.

On the same day, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine ended. They lasted more than an hour and were in Russian. Russian Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky said after the meeting that the parties had agreed on the largest exchange of prisoners of war since the beginning of the special military operation.
