The earthquake was located at a depth of 68 km. The tremors were recorded at 23:17 UTC (02:17 Moscow time).

According to EMSC, the epicenter of the disaster was located 17 km from the city of Marmaris (Istanbul province) with a population of 33.7 thousand people and 132 km south-southeast of the city of Aydin (Istanbul province), which has 163 thousand inhabitants.
